Evanescent Wave Cavity Ring-down Spectroscopy: a Future Technology for Process Sensing

چکیده
Evanescent wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy (EW-CRDS) is described. The total internal reflection (TIR)-ring and monolithic folded cavity designs are briefly discussed. The performance of EW-CRDS for trace water vapor detection is evaluated by accounting for surface chemical and physical properties as well as intrinsic resonator properties. INTRODUCTION Cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) uses the photon intensity decay time or ring-down time in a lowloss optical cavity to measure optical absorption. In the conventional implementation, the cavity typically consists of a pair of high reflectivity dielectric mirrors that are arranged to form a stable optical resonator. When a laser beam is injected into the cavity, the intensity decays exponentially with a ring-down time constant given by, 0 ) ( L + ) ( L t = ) (

Cavity Ring-down Biosensing
Cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) is an established technique for gases sensing that is newly emerging in the field of optical biosensing. This approach measures changes in the rate of decay of light injected into an optical resonator and relates them to optical loss along its length. This principle has recently been adapted for use in liquids, providing a highly sensitive method for quantit...

We combine the sensitivity advantages of cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) with the versatility of optical fiber sensing technology in a spatially extended passive fiber ring resonator constructed of common telecommunications components. The resonator is characterized with both pulsed and continuous-wave diode laser excitation, and it is shown to be a practical device for direct measurement ...

The implementation of cavity ring-down spectroscopy in an optical fiber resonator extends the viability of this highly sensitive technique for label-free detection of biological species. By chemically treating the surface of discrete tapered sensing regions along the length of a physically extended optical fiber resonator, we show single-cell sensitivity arising from optical scattering of the e...
متن کاملCavity-enhanced spectroscopy in optical fibers.
Cavity-enhanced methods have been extended to fiber optics by use of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as reflectors. High-finesse fiber cavities were fabricated from FBGs made in both germanium/boron-co-doped photosensitive fiber and hydrogen-loaded Corning SMF-28 fiber. Optical losses in these cavities were determined from the measured Fabry-Perot transmission spectra and cavity ring-down spectrosc...
متن کاملMolecular orientation study of methylene blue at an air/fused-silica interface using evanescent-wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy.
Using evanescent-wave cavity ring-down spectroscopy (EW-CRDS), we monitored the change in the absorbance of a thin film of methylene blue (MB) at an air/fused-silica interface while varying the polarization of the incident light (600 nm). We derived the average orientation angle of the planar MB molecules with respect to the surface normal and observed that the average orientation angle decreas...
